cheap travel

Procrastination may be the thief of time but all you slackers take note; procrastination shouldn't take away the opportunity to secure sweet holiday accommodation this summer.
Unless you're the type who is happy using a towel for a pillow and calling any dry patch of sand home, there's still a pretty big range of accommodation available for the busy season even in mainstream locations.
Even better, you can find, book, and pay for your beach digs without talking to a soul through easy-to-use sites such as Wotif and Top Ten Holiday Parks.
The beauty of these sites when compared with some of the others is the ability to see at a glance which places have availability on which days and at what price.
Wotif allows you to compare accommodation from fancy hotels right through to a tent site - but you need to be aware not all hotels and camp grounds are featured.
It's probably easier to decide which kind of accommodation is going to suit you before you start trawling the net.
Say you and a bunch of your 18-year-old mates just really want a camp site in a paddock somewhere away from all the families, so you can get merry early in the morning.
You probably shouldn't book into one of Top Ten Holiday Park's 48 properties, general manager John McCann says diplomatically.
"That wouldn't really fit in with Top Ten, it's not for everybody. There is that closeness, the communal thing," he says, which is favoured by families and international travellers.
Top Ten Holiday Parks' distinguish themselves with a minimum four-star rating and provide plenty above and beyond a patch of dirt and a power plug such as holiday programmes for the kids.
They have a mix of accommodation from motel rooms, to cutesy cabins and the classic tent sites powered or not and are dotted around the country's hot summer spots like their latest addition, the Waikanae Beach Top Ten in Gisborne.
Prices vary accordingly, from about $25 bucks for a no-frills no-power site, a standard cabin with kitchen for about $65, up to a comparatively swish motel unit for about $160.
To find your piece of paradise you can simply go to Top Ten's website, punch in your ideal destination and see what comes back.
Being that super busy time of year don't expect oodles of options but there's enough to ensure you're not caught out come Christmas or New Year's.
